Our congratulations to the Lincoln Park Rotary Club on celebrating 75 years of service in our community!
Originally chartered on May 13, 1949, the Rotary Club is commemorating its 75 years with an upcoming anniversary dinner. The event takes place on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. in the hall of the Bethel Assembly of God Church, 2984 Fort Street.
Formed in 1949 as a local chapter of the international service organization – with the motto “Service Above Self” – the LP Rotary membership has included a cross-section of local business leaders and professionals. Beyond its goal of “advancing international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship”, the club worked at the local level to encourage the ideal of community service.
Through its charter, Lincoln Park was added to the list of more than 6,500 cities in 80 countries and geographic regions where Rotary took a leading part in building community. Charter President of the Lincoln Park club that first year was Willard Tressel.
Over the years, proceeds from such events as the Pancake Breakfasts, Family Nights, and annual Pig Roasts** benefited the Easter Seal Society, the March of Dimes among other charitable organizations, and a long focus on education: local school projects, school safety awards, scholarships, school foreign exchange student programs, student grants for studies overseas, sponsorship of local student athletic programs. The Lincoln Park Sports Hall of Fame was founded by Rotary in 2001 for the purpose of recognizing and honoring individuals and teams who left their mark on the community’s long legacy of sporting accomplishments.
Tickets for the dinner are $25 and are available at the LP Historical Museum, which will benefit from a portion of the ticket sales. Those interested can call or email us for more information. Also, see the poster included here.
**NOTE: ADVANCE TICKETS PURCHASED AT THE MUSEUM WILL INCLUDE THE RECIPE FOR THE PIG ROAST’S FAMOUS BBQ SAUCE BY ROTARY MEMBER CHEF WILLIAM RAYMOND (circa 1960s-70s). Pig Roasts were held for many years at the parking lot of the Lincoln Park Shopping Center.
The Museum (1335 Southfield Road) is open Wednesday and Saturday from 1pm to 6pm, advance ticket sales end June 22. But there will be a limited number of tickets available at the door.
We hope you can join us for this 75th anniversary celebration!
